March 12, 2020
Dear Families,
As of March 12, 2020, the COVID-19 continues to change regularly. The schools in WNESU are
taking every precaution based on the most current information we get as it changes on a daily
basis. This message is precautionary only. Our first priority is the safety and well being for
everyone in WNESU as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread.
As I have stated before, as of today, we have no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in any of our
districts. We have not received recommendations from the Department of Health to close the
school as there are not any confirmed cases of COVID 19 in our area; however, we know this
situation could change very quickly. To that end, teachers are getting packets of work ready to
send home in the event that we need to close schools. The work sent home could include books,
worksheets, and other activities as well as online resources for those who can access the
internet. For middle and high school students, this will include online work.
If we have to close schools, you will be notified in the same way you are notified about a
weather-related closing. When appropriate and as needed, packets of work will be sent home.
Middle and high school students may be sent online assignments.
Precautions that are being taken around the district include extra cleaning and disinfecting
“high-contact” areas in all buildings and regularly instructing and encouraging students to
practice effective hygiene habits. We are also being extremely cautious about the presentation of
symptoms in students and staff. Please keep your child home if they are sick. Children who begin
exhibiting symptoms during the day will be sent home. All busses in WNESU are being cleaned
twice a day.
As of Friday, March 13, 2020, all large school gatherings that bring in people from outside the
school will be canceled. This is a cautionary measure. The administrator at the school your child
attends will send details on specific activities. We will reassess this decision in a few weeks and
update it as needed.
We are responding to the facts we are receiving from the Vermont Department of Health and
CDC. Please check these websites for up-to-date information.
